Keston Dark Timber & Gaggenau Kitchen

A family-first kitchen and living-area redesign in Keston, combining Leicht Bahia dark timber, light bronze detailing, Platino quartzite and a full Gaggenau appliance specification.

After living with the kitchen and living area for several years, the clients decided to rethink the whole space. The wider project included new glazing onto the patio, a retiled floor and new fixtures and fittings, so the kitchen needed to feel part of a complete interior rather than a standalone replacement.

The finished design combines Leicht Bahia routed dark timber, light bronze detailing, an angled Platino quartzite island and a full Gaggenau appliance specification.

The brief

A family kitchen and a living area, designed together.

The brief was to create a family kitchen that felt more coherent with the living area around it. The room needed to work for everyday family life, but also sit comfortably within a broader interior scheme involving new glazing, flooring, furniture and finishes.

The design had to bring the kitchen, drinks area and living space together without making them feel like separate pieces.

The design response

Dark timber, light bronze and an angled stone island.

Leicht Bahia became the main cabinetry statement, bringing dark routed timber texture into the space. To soften and lift the darker palette, light bronze elements were used across the wall units, the back of the island, the drinks area and the coordinated media unit.

The media unit also had a practical role, concealing an air-conditioning unit while helping the kitchen and living area feel like one complete space.

The island was designed with an angled Platino quartzite detail and wide stone legs, giving it a more architectural presence within the open-plan room.

A signature detail

The angled Platino island, with wide stone legs.

The angled Platino island is the defining detail of the project. Rather than reading as a standard worktop placed on cabinetry, the stone carries down into wide legs, giving the island weight, permanence and a more furniture-like quality.
