Clapham Quartzite & Timber Kitchen
A new-build Clapham apartment with striking views, but a developer-installed kitchen that did not match the building or the way the client wanted to live.
Recommended by an existing piqu client, Vanessa came to Adrian after buying a new-build apartment in Clapham off-plan. The apartment had striking views, but the developer-installed kitchen did not match the quality of the building or the way she wanted to live.
The redesign introduced Cosmopolitan Quartzite, routed timber, a backlit drinks area and furniture that continues into the lounge, creating a more personal kitchen and living space.
The brief
A kitchen that properly belongs to the apartment.
The brief was to make the kitchen feel properly part of the apartment: practical for a small family, but social enough for entertaining.
It also needed to speak to the living area rather than stopping abruptly at the edge of the kitchen. The result had to feel calmer, richer and more considered than the original developer specification.
The design response
Quartzite, routed timber and a kitchen that runs into the lounge.
Cosmopolitan Quartzite became the visual anchor. Its movement and pink tones brought character to the kitchen, while soft white cabinetry and oak routed timber added warmth and texture.
The same material language continues into the lounge as a media unit, helping the kitchen and living space feel designed together rather than treated as separate zones.
A signature detail
The backlit drinks area.
The backlit drinks area is the project's most atmospheric detail. The stone gives depth and presence, while the lighting turns the bottles and surface into part of the room rather than an afterthought.
